Cloverfield’s Monster-sized prophet

On Friday, Martin Luther King Jr. weekend, a low-budget giant monster movie produced by the person behind the new Star Trek movie, opened in my local theater. I gathered four friends and went to see the movie. What I really didn’t expect though, was that it would make big money. It topped box office #1 movie of the weekend, topping it’s weekend competitor 27 Dresses. It also took control of the Holiday Box office record, beating Black Hawk Down’s Christmas record. The movie made an estimated 40 million dollars over the weekend, and it was said that it would double through Friday to Saturday.  Producer J.J Abrams explains that,

“If we are to make a second movie, it will be from a different home camera on the same attack.”

And that’s what I personally expect.
